Welcome to the Daily Brew Fix

Starting Your Coffee Journey Here.

Simple is the best

If you’re here, you’re probably like me: you’re obsessed with a great cup of coffee, but you’re tired of the sour brews, the confusing advice, and the “snobbery” that often comes with it.

I am here to help you brew better coffee, wherever you are.

As someone whose work and life often have me on the move, I’ve had to learn how to “fix” my daily brew in every situation from a cheap hotel room with no gear to my “home base” with a high-end espresso machine.

This site is my collection of everything I’ve learned along the way.

You’re in the Right Place If…

  • You’re tired of your coffee tasting sour, bitter, or weak, and you’re ready to fix it for good.
  • You’re overwhelmed by all the “must-have” gear and just want to know what actually works.
  • You’re a beginner and want to learn a simple, repeatable brewing method without the confusing jargon.
  • You’re a traveler or camper and want to know how to make great coffee on the road.

Your First Fix: A 3-Step Starter Kit

Start with these hand-picked guides. This is the fast-track to a better cup.

Step 1: Fix Your Brew (The Core Skill)

Before you buy any new gear, let’s fix your process. 90% of bad coffee comes from a few common, easy-to-fix mistakes.

This is the most common coffee problem. This posts will teach you the fundamentals of extraction that apply to your brewing method.

Step 2: Find Your Method (The Daily Ritual)

You don’t need 10 different coffee makers. You need one that you love. If you’re new, I always recommend starting with one of these two.

Step 3: Choose Your Gear (The Smart Way)

Your coffee is only as good as your grinder. You don’t need to spend a fortune, but you need to spend smart. These are my most foundational gear guides.

Which Brew Method is Best for Beginners?

We recommend starting with one of these two champions of beginner-friendliness:

The AeroPress

Incredibly forgiving, easy to clean, makes a concentrated brew that can be diluted for various styles (espresso-like, regular coffee, cold brew). Hard to mess up!

The Hario V60 (Pour-Over)

Simple design, highlights the unique flavors of your beans. It’s a fundamental skill that teaches you a lot about extraction. A bit more technique, but very rewarding.

A beginner Recipe: A Foolproof AeroPress Brew

If you just bought an AeroPress, or thinking of getting one, try this recipe. Let’s make your very first amazing cup!

All you need for the brew with the AeroPress;

  • Coffee: 17 grams (grind it medium-fine, like table salt)
  • Water: 250 grams (just off the boil, around 205°F / 96°C)
  • Steps (Inverted Method):
    1. Assemble AeroPress in inverted position. Place funnel on top.
    2. Add 17g freshly ground coffee.
    3. Pour 250g hot water into the AeroPress.
    4. Stir gently for 10 seconds.
    5. Let steep for 1 minute.
    6. Place filter cap with rinsed filter, flip carefully onto your mug, and press slowly for 20-30 seconds.
    7. Dilute with a little hot water if too strong. Enjoy!
